Connection problems and low bandwidth w/ wireless

Hello all,
I’ve been working on this problem for a week by reading forum listing and tutorials. I’m at the end of my rope.

I have and ACER TravelMate 4670 with an internal modem Pro/Wireless 3945ABG. After the latest kernel update, I lost connection through the linux driver iwl3945. I’ve installed ndiswrapper and with the WinXP driver w39n51, the modem is now detected and attempts to connect to my 2Wire router. But, it still disconnects.

I’m a newbie. Could someone give me a hand please? I will be very grateful.

Hi,

have you any security on your wireless network ?? You need to enter the wep/wpa key into your config for your wireless card.

This can be done via network manager if using KDE.

Yes, both network manager and ifup are configured with Wep keys as Open Wep connections. Still no reliable connection.

Would posting more data to this forum help to figure out what is wrong? What would you like?

Did you actually get a wireless connection? What does ‘iwconfig’ show?

Hello there, here is the iwconfig that you requested.

Password:
john-laptop:~ # iwconfig
lo no wireless extensions.

wlan0 IEEE 802.11g ESSID:off/any
Mode:Managed Frequency:2.462 GHz Access Point: Not-Associated
Bit Rate:54 Mb/s
RTS thr:35613 B Fragment thr:35613 B
Encryption key:off
Power Management max timeout:0us mode:All packets received
Link Quality:0 Signal level:0 Noise level:0
Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0
Tx excessive retries:0 Invalid misc:0 Missed beacon:0

eth0 no wireless extensions.

john-laptop:~ #

It never really connects. KwifiManager shows a connection speed of 54 MBit/s but no access point is shown and the local IP is unavailable. This is shown despite my adding of the router’s access point to the ifup and Network Manager settings.

Thanks,
JG
