Connection problem

Hello,

I have got an OpenSuse Linux Root.
Yet before one week, the root went apparently down.
After checking out the AdminCP though, I noticed that the server wasn’t down, it was only refusing
every connection it gets.
Fortunately my hoster offers a rescue operation system which I activated.
Now I have access to the root again by using putty.
But I have no clue what could be wrong with Linux!
Maybe the firewall is the cause?
Furthermore I am a bloody newcomer with Linux, so I don’t have any clue how to tell Linux something
about the firewall or something else without a deskop…

Please help me!

Thank you very much in advance.

Going back and finding out what happened before you did your rescue
operation may be difficult if not impossible. If you were getting
Connection Refused messages no matter what you were connecting to maybe
a firewall was in the way, or the service you were trying to reach had
been stopped (more likely since the SUSE firewall usually doesn’t tell
you your connection was refused if a port is blocked). Anyway what
changed when this happened? I assume everything is working properly now
but, if not, there may be some more things to check like log files,
service configurations, etc.

Good luck.

Thank you very much, I finally solved the problem.

Yet I have a new one: My Yast can’t work with PRM files, it gives out an error message and fails. Any ideas?
Or do I have to reinstall Linux again?

It is even worse now. I can’t install something with Yast anymore. The message ‘Please wait while packages are beeing installed’ appears, and then, after 5 seconds, Yast closes without having done the installation.
How can I repair Yast or reinstall it?
Thanks in advance…
