I ran into a problem out of nowhere yesterday, and the problem is still occurring today. Yesterday I loaded OpenSUSE (10.3) after a complete shutdown of an hour or so, and the C partition wold not load. It wasn’t that big of a deal, but when I double clicked the icon for the drive (partition in this case), I got an alert telling me that I did not have permission to load ‘/dev/sda1’. So I opened a terminal and tried to mount it manually, but I got an alert that the drive could not be found. Today the problem got worse because now I have no connectivity to the internet on SUSE. I started my router, but to no avail. So for the time being, I can only access OpenSUSE programs and files, and cannot get on the internet.
Can you show the mount command you tried? Did you try doing it as
‘root’ when you did it in the GUI? Post the output to a couple
commands, if you could (eliminate any you know are wrong if you know
your hard drive well) (run these as ‘root’):
Presumably the output from one of those will include something about a
partition that is NTFS or Fat32 for the windows stuff. Mounting from
there should basically be fairly simple (lots of documents online about
it) but first we need to be sure you have rights (be ‘root’) and that we
have the right drive and partition chosen.
Good luck.

Thanks AB, but apparently after I booted into Windows to get online and create the topic (this one), I stayed on for like 20 minutes or so, and then just booted back into Linux and I have my internet back and the drive mounted automatically. I did try restarting before, but I still had the same problem: drive didn’t mount, and no internet. But, however weird it got fixed, it’s fixed now. Thank you for the help, though, AB, very much appreciated.
Hmmmm… weird. Anyway, good to hear it’s working. Thanks for
posting back.
Good luck.
