I have a wired connection, i.e. from my desktop wired into my modem. I have just signed up for an openVPN service thanks to the Australian Government’s headlong charge to insist that browsing history is retained by ISPs for at least two years…
I dual boot and the other, Windows, half of the machine connects to the particular openVPN service no problems, the openSUSE side, not so much.
I have just updated to 13.2 and am very happy with it, my attempts to do the VPN thing have only been in 13.2 so this is not a ‘it used to work, now it doesn’t’ request.
Against my better judgement I tried to do this with Networkmanager (which I didn’t have installed previously, I didn’t need it) but this has been an abject failure. Two days worth of abject failure, which seems to get worse with each attempt.
Fairly simple question then, how do I connect to an openVPN server in 13.2. I DO NOT, under any circumstances, want to use Networkmanager, as I think that it is a rabid dog of a program that should have been put down many years ago.
What I am after is a clone of the Windows set up ie, the connection is set up, starts on boot and does its thing in the back ground to connect me to the openVPN server, as opposed to NM’s ‘oh you moved your mouse, please insert your root password in 54 times to continue.’
KVpnc seems promising but I couldn’t get it to connect.
Cheers
