i have a problem in connecting to the ADSL modem connected to my netgear wireless router. I need to dial the connection to connect to the internet. when i try using kinternet it is giving me an error. Kindly help me resolve this as I am a novice in linux and keen in learning it from the internet.
1 ) connect to your netgear wirelessly
2 ) from netgear to your ADSL modem
3 ) internet
if this is correct, you need to configure your netgear to passs through from your ADSL modem. Then, when you get to the modem’s setup page configure from there.
If I may recommend if you have the ability use a cabled connection to setup your internet. When this is working focus on getting the whole lot wireless.
When you have a wired connection go to the netgear configuration page (probably http://192.168.0.1, this is my Netgear setup page ;)) and login using the admin user name and password. Check the manual of your netgear for instructions. I think it should be setup pretty quickly by default.
All of this is assuming your modem actually has a working connection. If this is not the case you should connect to it directly (i.e. don’t use the netgear router) and setup your connection according to the instruction you should have been provided with by your ISP. Ones this is working, connect your wireless router to a LAN port on the modem and plug it into the WAN port on the router. Consult the routers manual on how to set it up from there.
To be honest I think it is a very clumpsy setup and with the price of modems being so low these days I would probably buy a wireless ADSL modem/router off Ebay or something and make all of this a lot simpler.
Just my 2ct. I hope I can be of any more assistance but I would like some more information about what equipment is involved.
