Connecting OpenSUSE to a Microsoft AD and Domain?

I just want to say I’m new at Linux… I’ve installed many distros over the last 5 years… but really never got into it… I finally decided to bite the bullet and installed Oracle Virtual Box on my computer at work and I’m going to use OpenSUSE as my primary machine until I feel comfortable enough to move to it completely… with that said… We do have a domain in place here and the first thing I need to do is get it attached to the domain (For file and printer reasons) Any help would be great… I’ve searched and googled all that I could but everything they talked about kind of confused me…

thanks
J

So perhaps you are not searching on the right thing like “Samba Attach to Windows Domain”. Right off, I found several matches like this one:

Chapter 6. Domain Membership

I am not the expert on such things but you may also want to look at some fine write ups on Samba at:

Good luck.

Thank You,

Well I decided to reinstall it yesterday just because I ended up messing something up trying to statically set my ipaddress… which was not really an issues since I don’t have anything on the machine yet… and during the install I found you can attach it to a domain during the install… I put everything in correctly as far as I can tell but I get this message

Sorry about that image didn’t go through for some reason

Never mind I got it… thanks for you help thought…

FYI: for anyone that has this issue… make sure you do… DOMAIN.local not just the domain

And since .local is a reserved TLD for multicast DNS, PLEASE use something
else! (please)
