Confusion regarding updates

Hi,
When I do

zypper refresh

&

zypper update

I find some updates but when I open YAST>Online Update I find no updates.

Confused :open_mouth:

Online update is the same as
zypper patch

zypper up
is different

Simple reason: zypper update is not the same as zypper patch which is
the equivalent to YOU

Online update is the same as
zypper patch

zypper up
is different

Therefore doing zypper refresh & zypper update keeps the system more up to date in comparison to Online Update?

zypper up

will update to a newer version where it exists and so long as it doesn’t break any switches you have applied

In a certain sense yes. The “zypper patch” will only apply the security
updates which come from the official openSUSE repositories, nothing
else, whereas “zypper up” will also update packages where a newer
version is available in the repository from which the package comes from
(zypper up will not change the vendor!) including all the extra
repositories like packman.

Thanks.
