Conflicts when trying upgrade Nvidia drivers

My nvidia driver is out-of-date but I can’t update because of a conflict. I would like some advice on how to proceed. Here’s the message:

Problem: 1: the installed nvidia-open-driver-G06-signed-kmp-meta-580.159.03-lp160.55.1.x86_64 conflicts with ‘nvidia-open-signed-kmp > 580.159.03’ provided by the to be installed nvidia-open-driver-G06-signed-kmp-default-580.178.04_k6.12.0_160000.37-160000.1.1.x86_64
Solution 1: deinstallation of nvidia-open-driver-G06-signed-kmp-meta-580.159.03-lp160.55.1.x86_64
Solution 2: do not install nvidia-open-driver-G06-signed-kmp-default-580.178.04_k6.12.0_160000.37-160000.1.1.x86_64

I don’t want to break anything if I can avoid it. Any help would be appreciated.

Solution 2 (do not install…) until a matching 580.178.04 version of the meta package appears on the Nvidia download server.
You may still install (or keep if already installed) the 580.159.03 version.

Okay. So when the meta package is bumped to version 580.178.04, it’ll then allow the all the other packages to be installed. Is the meta package sort of the gate keeper?

Thanks.

The meta package ensures that a matching set of packages is installed, so yes, it is a sort of gatekeeper.

Thank you.

I also have a problem with the exact same proprietary NVIDIA drivers and when I make them upgrade they also show the same conflict on those exact same driver versions. I will be waiting for a solution for this problem.

No solution needed. As Bruno as stated, wait for the meta package to be bumped. I checked yesterday and it was, so all my NVIDIA packages updated as expected.
