conflict updating flash player

**Machine # 1 currently running openSUSE 12.1 KDE 4.7.2 ** [just updated profile]

I am getting this error on trying to do online updates:
Patch:openSUSE-2012-776-1.noarch conflicts with flash-player.x86_64<11.2.202.251-34.1 provided by flash-player-11.2.202.243-30.1.x86_64

IT gives me a choice of:
1] Do not keep flash player.x86_64<11.2.202.251-34.1 installed
2] Do not install patch:openSUSE-2012-776.1

I have chosen 2, but then the error msg keeps returning when ever i do online updates.
I haven’t tried 1 because I do not want to mess anything without finding out more first.

How do I find out why I am having this conflict?
Thank You

You did the safe thing. What source/repo did you get the currently installed flash player.x86_64 from?

In any case, you will have to do option one to have the latest security update. But check the repo first.

Ok, I checked on an old 12.1 system here where flash-player (and other stuff) hadn’t been updated. On applying the updates, I had same conflict as you now face. A previous patch from the Update repo had installed “flash-player-11.2.202.243-30.1.x86_64”.

I selected option “1] Do not keep flash player.x86_64<11.2.202.251-34.1 installed”. The latest flash-player 11.2.202.251-34.1 successfully installed and is working. It’s a very important security update, so you should now proceed with option 1.

The repo was packman. I have gone ahead and chosen # 1 and all seems to be ok. Thanks so much for quick response.

You’re welcome, and now you have the “why”.

Changing the source between packman and openSUSE [Update] repo(s) is a change of vendor, and the package manager by default offers you choices in how to proceed.
