Configure keyboard keys

Is it possible to configure keyboard keys to produce a string of characters? For example, that the left Windows key produces “87tyu45”. I read SDB:Using the Extra Keys on the Keyboard - openSUSE but it only discusses replacing a single character with another single character.


Do you mean within a particular X-Window application or within a bash program/console? Have you looked online at xte from xautomation? e.g.:

Thanks for the link. I watched a tutorial for Debian (I believe), and it looks very interesting. I couldn’t find it in openSUSE repositories but I am reasonably confident I can track it down or compile from source.
