Computer wont boot from hdd or boot disc

I have been having a problem with my 11.1 recently, in that it gets stuck at a point in the boot process that tells me “INIT cannot execute /bin/sh” then it says “INIT: id 1 is respawning too fast please wait 5 minutes” and tells me there are no more preocesses in this runlevel and repeats this no matter how long I wait. Since I couldnt find any information on fixing that, I decided to just upgrade to 11.3 with a boot disc. Now my computer wont recognize the disc to boot from it and still gets stuck at the same screen. any help would be amazing, since I am completely baffled

And on top of this, it wont let me type a single thing once it tells me there are no more processes in the runlevel. its an hp dv2945 se laptop with suse 11.1

Are you sure you have set the CD drive as 1st boot device in the BIOS.
Test other discs if you have them
Test the disc on another machine if you have one.

Either you are having hardware issues (most likely disk or RAM), or your 11.1
system has gotten corrupted. Eliminate the hardware issues first by running
memtest86+ for several hours, and then a non-destructive hard disk test. Perhaps
someone else can recommend a free one for you. My computer has one built into
the BIOS.
