Computer randomly shutting down (may have something to do with daemons?)

this isn’t exclusively a boot problem, but it happens often enough at boot for me to put it here anyways.
ever since i installed linux on my computer I’ve been plagued with random shutdowns. the times vary. Sometimes they happen after 15-30 minutes of regular computer use. sometimes they happen constantly on boot. these shutdowns aren’t like pressing the ‘shut down’ button/ they’re more akin to pressing the ‘power off’ button on my computer. even putting windows into hibernation (i dual-boot) didn’t solve anything. and neither did using KDE wayland.
Here are a couple details about the shutdowns:

  • Often occurs upon key press
  • If it happens frequently enough, it can cause linux to stop recognizing the Bluetooth adapter in my motherboard. occasionally the wifi adapter will go offline though this has only happened once so far. strangely it does not impact my Bluetooth keyboard. so this doesn’t affect USB Bluetooth adapters
  • Temporarily lessened by adjusting cable connections to the motherboard. the ‘symptons’ seem to start up again after a couple of days. though i am not 100% sure what connections could be causing this issue. i have a hunch it may be the GPU cable, or any cable close to the motherboard usb ports or the RAM
  • speaking of RAM. the long-term memory does persist long enough for me to power up the computer again. usually sending me to the default regata os login screen and helping me resume whatever i was doing…
  • …though the shutdowns are more frequent this way. especially while i am logging back in. so i tend to turn the power supply off and wait for the RAM to shut down.
  • Could possibly be averted by shutting down through the system instead of just pressing the power button. though this hypothesis has not been tested much and it seems a bit flimsy.

Looking at the above quirks it could be something to do with daemons? I’ve been dealing with this problem for weeks and I’m still stumped. would appreciate any guidance on what to do.
below is a boot log from one of the times where the shutdowns got bad and persisted constantly.

I don’t think it’s a physical problem since my brother has the same build running windows 11 but here are my specs just in case:

@InedibleWindows Hi and welcome to the Forum
Unlikely to get any takers, only a month left before Leap 15.6 goes EOL, perhaps ask in the Spanish sub forum?

i am not sure if i can help.
could you send your journal or at least the last multiple boots

  • sudo journalctl -b 0 > bootj.log ,sudo journalctl -b -1 > boot2j.log and so on
  • if you could send ssd SMART data for the root drive
  • could you test your ram multiple passes using memtest
  • could you reset you BIOS to fail safe settings (not the defaults ) and see if the problem presist
  • disable any OC ram profiles

is Regata OS 25 based on leap ? i see leap kernel but i am not sure it look is very heavily modified distro first time hearing about to be honest
could you send the output of cat /etc/os-release just out of curiosity i wounder what it says

and for good measure if you could update you BIOS to the latest version

i see a lot of BIOS updates for your motherboard with a lot of stability improvement

I’m a bit perplexed.

(take note, @exception, before you recommend anything)

Regata OS, is NOT an openSUSE release product.

Even though there are folks (Regata users) who believe that a “Linux distro that is “forked” from some other distro” does NOT mean it follows its full usage signature.

Folks might want to check the Regata “About” page … there is , today, ZERO mention of “based on openSUSE”

As a matter of fact, they brag about “free alternative to Microsoft Windows” … I should mention that openSUSE has zero to do with replicating Windows or being a strong gaming type distro.

The following used to be content found on the Regata FAQ webpage, which is a broken link now:

Their basic update sub-system is also completely different, in addition to other numerous divergence.

The Regata website has a “Help” section … THAT’S where Regata folks need to go.

thank you for clarification and the information i will be careful

i completely agree they have telegram channel for support i think he would be able to find the best support there

This sounds like a power supply or RAM issue.

  • your power supply might be faulty
  • cable connections might be faulty
  • check RAM with a RAM test software

Do you have the correct setting in systemsettings, that the computer gets shut down when the power button is pressed? If you do not have the right setting, the button might simply cut the power which may lead to filesystem corruption and SSD/HDD defects.
