Compositing question

My main pc struggled with nvidia problems until a recent zypper dup. I switched to my backup pc to get it updated. This pc has intel video, not nvidia. I have dual monitors. My large monitor is a tv and I connect via hdmi. The output of this monitor jumped and fluttered so much it was unusable on the backup pc. While searching for this monitor’s settings, I saw that compositing was enabled and there was an option to let it block compositing from some apps. Just to see what happens, I enabled that block.

The monitor no longer flutters. My question is “why did this work?”

On old/underpowered hardware, the Compositor might lead to stuttering/lags.
