complete reset of gnome desktop

my gnome desktop suddenly has no task bar, nor any control of the windows, almost as if there is no windows manager. It opens with an Evolution window, but if I close that I have nothing but a green screen with a mouse cursor.
I’ve tried a complete reinstall of SUSE 11.0 but no change. Even going back to 10.2 it remains the same. How do i completely reset the desktop to system defaults as if in a new installation?
Many thanks,

Rename your /home/yourUserName/.gnome and /home/yourUserName/.gnome2
directories and logout/login to see if that helps.

Good luck.

Thanks for the advice. I wound up doing a complete install of 11.1 and, with the exception of Evolution not emptying the trash everything is working very well.
Any advice on the Evolution “trash” issue?
