Hello,
I just have installed Opensuse with Gnome Desktop and have to say that I’m quite comfortable with it.
However I’m having some problems with Compiz.
The first problem is that Opensuse crashes every time I switch a window via “alt+tab” or when I’m using the window switcher which can be activated by moving the mouse in the top right corner (or where ever it is configured).
When the system crashes I can still move the mouse but it doesn’t react on any buttons (be it mouse or keyboard). However the PC’s Power button, which I have configured to shut down the PC (in the screen-saver/energy settings), still works properly.
I also have to mention that it only crashes when I change the window and not when I use “alt+tab” or the window switcher and pick the window I was already using.
The second problem is that the edge options, which can be set in the simple Compiz editor, have to be reconfigured after every reboot. It’s not that the settings would have changed but I just have to change them to a different option and than change it back again to the option I already had switched to make it work.
These edge options are the main reason for me to use Compiz and I don’t really want to miss them.
I think it can’t be wrong to give you some information about my system:
-Operating System: Opensuse 11.1 i386
-Mainboard: Asus P5Q
-CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E8400
-Ram: Kingston Value Ram DDR2-800 4GB
-Graphic card: Zotac Nvidia Geforce 9800GTX Amp with driver version 180.22
I have installed the system several times and always have the problems as soon as I activate Compiz which is the first thing I do after installing the graphic card driver.
I’m afraid my English isn’t to good and I hope I could describe my problems properly.
Thanks for any help
Tobias
Edit: I forgot to mention that i didn’t have this problems in Ubuntu.
I found some error regarding compiz in a file called “xsession-errors” placed in my home directory. Maybe it is any help.
(I have cut a bit from the start.)
