Compaq nx6310, problem with wi-fi

So i read the sticky thread and tried to follow directions. This is what I cam up with

BCM4311 802.11b/g Wireless LAN Controller
Kernal:ssb
FirmwareID: FW13

I tried to run sudo /usr/sbin/iwlist.scan but it didn’t work??

I installed openSUSE on here because for some reason windows doesn’t recognize the hard drive to install it.??

Any help is great.

Thank you!

Have you installed the firmware? Use ‘dmesg | grep b43’ to see if there was a
firmware loading problem.

Okay, it said to go here:

b43 - Linux Wireless

and to do this:

openSUSE 11.0, 11.1, and 11.2 use the following command:
sudo /usr/sbin/install_bcm43xx_firmware

I connected to the Internet through my WIRED LAN to download and it said complete.

I messed around with it and still can’t get it to work

Never mind, I got it to work by switching it from “traditional” to some other thing, deleted old networks and somehow got to a new screen where i entered my SSID. I don’t know how it works, but it does.

Thanks you.

The “some other thing” is called NetworkManager. It is definitely better for
beginners.
