command line program

Just loaded Opensuse 11.1. Was immediately depressed to discover the command line program ‘locate’ was not installed by default. I can just install it, of course, but I thought I’d ask the forum if there was some other program that takes the place of locate. Is there some such program?

Thanks,
Stuckee

$ locate

The program ‘locate’ can be found in following packages:

  • findutils-locate path: /usr/bin/locate, repository: zypp (openSUSE_11.1_DVD_ISO) ]
  • findutils-locate path: /usr/bin/locate, repository: zypp (repo-oss) ]
  • findutils-locate path: /usr/bin/locate, repository: zypp (openSUSE_11.1-0_1) ]

Try installing with: sudo zypper install findutils-locate

-bash: locate: command not found

There you go, no more reason to be depressed. :slight_smile:

Thanks ken_yap. That did the trick. Also glad to know about zypper.
