colored chaos after configuration

Hi everybody,

I am a newbie to say this first!

I installed the latest version of openSuSe (the loaded and burned .iso) and after my laptop had finished the configuration, the screen went dark and colored shapes blinked all over it.
This happened shortly before at the graphics-test too, so my idea is, that linux don’t like my card - could that be it?! (I’ve installed it twice now, same end)

My system:
Intel Pentium Dual-Core T2390 2x 1.86GHz
2048MB RAM
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3470 256MB dedicated
(it’s an ASUS Notebook)

thanks in advance!

You can try two things
Find on the opensuse database if you’re Graphic card
is supported
Or login in the failsafe mode as root.
Start up yast2>hardware>Graphic card and monitor
if will probe you’re Graphic card and monitor again
if it is OK save it
Then the command startx to start the x server
and see if it is good

according to this HCL/Laptops/Asus - openSUSE the whole hardware should be compatible and the asus site contains drivers for my card. (mine is F5SL)

failsafe mode runs the normal way, but if I make the monitor and card test, there is this crazy colored chaos again!

Look for the settings in xorg.conf .
Pay a good attention to monitor section.
Or give us the contains of the file
