Codec not working

I installed the codecs from the link given on this page
Multimedia - openSUSE-Community
I used the codec for Gnome.

Even after that I keep getting the error mesage saying codec not found.
When i tried playing in VLS the player just closes without any message.

Hi!
have you installed vlc from pacman repo? if not, remove it completely, install vlc, w32codec-all and xvid from pacman and see if it works.

also, read this thread:
VLC issue: no sound, no video… nothing - openSUSE Forums

Installed from packman. My VLC is finally working. Thats really a relief.
Thanks!

But none of my other players can play videos. All give the error ‘The playback of this movie requires a RIFF/CDXA (VCD) decoder plugin which is not installed.’ I nhave installed the Win32 codec pack from packman. It still gives the same error.:’(

You either need all packman packages or all videolan packages . … but not both. Chances are those other players are packman packaged and are not compatible with the videolan packages.

I have all my players working with all codecs (vlc, xine, kaffeine, mplayer) and I only use Packman Packaged apps.

So right now am supposed to remove the videolan codecs, right?
And why does vls nor run when Desktop Effects are enabled? And how can I fix it?

Thanks

In openSUSE, I have read that one needs to change the video output module of one’s application to a different setting to get video working with “Desktop Effects”. Typically “xv” (xvideo) does not work with “Desktop Effects” but “x11” does work.

Well I tried to change the video mode, but I couldn’t find the option anywhere. Sorry but am not very used to Linux. And also when I have an audio player running in the background(with paused music) and run VLC i get no audio output.

Well i finally managed to change my video output. But i have no audio. Help!!

Please post here the output of typing the following in a gnome-terminal/konsole:
rpm -q libffmpeg0 kaffeine vlc xvid libxine1 w32codec-all

Also, I assume you have basic sound … Is that correct?

Also, if the file you are trying to play is called “myvideo.avi”, please type in a gnome-terminal/konsole:
file myvideo.avi
and post here the output.

No I no longre am able to play any audio. No Mp3 nothing.

The Output:
libffmpeg0-0.4.9svn-20080818.pm.0
package kaffeine is not installed
vlc-0.8.6i-0.pm.2
xvid-1.1.3-0.pm.0
libxine1-1.1.15-0.pm.1
w32codec-all-20071007-0.pm.1

Well looks like the problem sorted itself out. Don’t know how but after a reboot everything is working fine.
Thanks all u guys for helping out.

For whatever reason I haven’t been getting ANY codecs to work except mp3. I’m removing all the packages installed from VideoLAN right now and I’m going to install all pacman packages.
