Maybe imagebeam should be educated on this…
What dvhenry said, make it easy, like the quote button. I’m also having to go to Advanced too often, like above
Yes, this is what I am trying to say.
It annoys me that the full editor doesn’t come up and I am forced to exercise my finger even more to get where I want to be. And I raised the issue with Kim, but apparently we are stuck with this ATM
But perhaps one extra button in the basic editor, for code tags is negotiable? If a user can see a simple way to use code tags I think they are far more likely to use them.
Yes please, let’s have it.

Sounds like a NNTP gateway problem then. Maybe I should have made it a bit more than +1.0?
I hope that the discussion about Carl’s image is not swamping the OP’s request.
+1.000.000 from me.
Why do we have to go Advanced to get the most used (well it should be) button available?
I do it all the time and it seems to be just a small loss of time and energy, but the big thing is that new users (many uers) never learn to use the feature when it is hidden like it is!
I am on the brink of refusing to read computer output not posted wth CODE tags, get a headache and still can not read/understand it.
Yep - It’s a big pain in the butt.
I noticed something on Mint forum recently when I was replying to a thread, that had been answered by someone else during the time I was typing my reply. When I click ‘Submit’ it didn’t submit, but switch to show me the reply that had been added in the mean time, leaving me the choice to submit or not the reply I had prepared. Quite handy little feature.
And the full editor is there from the the go. AND when you click #(code) the cursor is placed in between the tags, also handy.
This is code
And the cursor was placed right between the tags, as you wished. lol!

you can have the full editor here “from the go” also, just click
Settings > General Settings > [Scroll down to] Miscellaneous Options >
Message Editor Interface > and pick “Enhanced Interface - Full WYSIWYG
Editing” … then you always have what you get by clicking “reply” twice…

@DenverD, thanks for that, but the main pain lies in the fact that the button is not there by default to be used easily by newcomers. And when you try to teacgppl when and hoe to use it, that descriptiion is to be so elaborate that I allways think I am talking nuts to them: click the #, but you have to be in Advanced, which you can become … blablabla.
In Forums like ours it must be at the forefront and not hidden somewhere if this is a forum about cosmetics.

Guess what?

oh…so the point of this thread is than when a new user joins s/he
should be default assigned the Enhanced Interface
then why hadn’t someone already written that?
but, unless someone explains what the # button is for, and how to use
it it used correctly…and, well… the forum software could pop up
one of those “Do you agree to abide by the terms & conditions and
FAQ?” and POP up all the FAQs (someone has to add a section of why and
how to use the “#”)…and NOT let anyone post until they have been on
the FAQ/T&C page long enough to READ it)…
even then, fat chance 10% will either read or understand it…so, its
kinda a fluffy pain to default to the worst editor available and
give’em all the chance to use bold colored fonts to say “HELP! I’M NEW
AND IT IS BROKE. HELP. WHERE ARE MY DADS IMPORTATAT PAPERS…I DIDN’T
DO IT, REALLY I DIDN’T…SUSE DID IT, I HATE SUSE!”

you (or anyone) could write a real quick (but complete) why and how
and put it in our locked how-to forum and then just reference it, like
Carl does his treasure store of how-to…

i agree…unfortunately, there is a LOT of stuff hidden by fluff,
colored winky-blinky icons, spinning cubes and such…seems to be a
sign of the times (to waste cycles just to LOOK cool)…

Just put it inside code tags, perhaps it tried to do some math on it

Nope, didn’t work. No handy CODE button, have to put a simple +1 inside a CODE tag. What is the forum coming to.
oh…so the point of this thread is than when a new user joins s/he
should be default assigned the Enhanced Interface
I would have thought the “point to this thread” would by now have been obvious, perhaps read through it again!
but, unless someone explains what the # button is for, and how to use
it it used correctly…and, well… the forum software could pop up

I see, so what we should do then is just stick to the status quo, we should not consider possible changes or improvements!
Why not just try to make things easier for the person posting the thread and those replying ?

DenverD;
Is this the thread you were thinking of?
http://forums.opensuse.org/english/get-help-here/install-boot-login/390796-help-1-a.html
This was only topped by the post on the danger of logging in as root. This
post gave a command, that I dare not post, as an example of how you could
destroy your system. (It involved rm). Someone tried it just to see what
would happen.

but, unless someone explains what the # button is for, and how to use

Please click on the “#” button and paste the output between the CODE tags.
Doesn’t seem that hard to me.
If that button was labled “CODE” instead of “#” would it not be almost totally self explanatory ?
As in the user knows what the button is for by looking at it, and what it does by clicking it.
