Cockpit launcher as root

I can only log into the Cockpit launcher as a regular user. It doesn’t accept my root credentials. Settings and Tools are disabled, so I’d like to like to get into Cockpit with full privileges. How do I do this?

That is by design.

To get full privileges in Cockpit, once you’ve logged in with your user credentials, click the button for turning on administrative access (if you see it), or click the “Limited Access” control in the upper right corner (see screenshot below from my TW installation).

I don’t see this in GNOME, Leap 16. What are you using?

I am using GNOME on Tumbleweed, usually.

Here is a screenshot from my Leap 16.0 virtual machine:

Clicking “Limited Access” shows this:

Clearing that dialog replaces the lock icon with “Limited Access” with “Administrative Access”:

It is independent from the used DE or openSUSE flavour. So simply login as your user in Cockpit and elevate your access rights as described and illustrated above.

I see. Does it require two passwords every time?

Add your “normal” user to the “wheel” group on the target system?

The default configuration doesn’t, but if you upgraded from an earlier release, it might.

As OrsoBruno noted, if you add your regular user to the wheel group, then it shouldn’t.
