Welcome to the Forums!
Does suspend work otherwise, triggering it with a keyboard button for instance?
Can you post here the last few lines of the journal when suspend doesn’t happen?
(Please use “Pre-formatted text”, the </> button above the editing area).
Please be aware that suspend takes some 10-20 seconds to a couple of minutes with slow disks, so wait for the cycle to complete before opening the lid again.
Yes.
New laptops are using Modern Standby (S0), they do not suspend to RAM anymore. It is always instant.
What does cat /sys/power/mem_sleep show?
Please show:
sudo journalctl -b -u systemd-suspend
My output with working suspend:

Even when I suspend manually using the power button, it wakes up and continues to drain the battery.
