OpenSUSE 11.4. Hi, I cloned a disk (to create a backup system), and when I attempt to boot the OS it complains about the disk’s serial/signature. It there a way to edit so it can be booted?
I’ve not done this myself, but I believe the problem lies in /etc/fstab, which will contain references to partitions (probably in the form of UUIDs) which are now incorrect.
Mount the installed system from a live CD, and compare its fstab with the output of blkid.
Oh yes I see that now, thanks muchly!
OMG used the system repair tool off the net install CD and it proceeded to check the system, got medieval on some orphaned inodes then proceeded get jiggy with the boot loader. Give be every opportunity to correct the boot loader target partitions, edit the fstab manually (if required), and delete the cloned lines that were in ‘error’ due to the cloning… What a sweet piece of tool! Thanks again! g
