Client permanently connects to Server

Hi

I am a rookie in Linux. I have freenas as Server-Software. With opensuse 11.0 I mounted a nfs approval by using Yast. Everything works fine, but the client and the server permanently exchange data, even when I don’t use the mounted folder. So the harddrives of the server cannot pass into standby when the server isn’t needed.
This problem appeared after updating opensuse after installation.
Does anyone know how to solve the problem or which Patch caused this problem?

Hi
Sounds like some broadcast traffic? Have you tried a packet capture
(wireshark or tcpdump) to see what is happening?

Thank you for your proposal. I’ll gonna try that.

Here is the packet capture I have made. But I don’t know what it means.

Hi
So if you just leave it running for a period of time (no need to post
the capture  ), is most of the traffic NFS related? If so maybe you
can do some tuning of NFS, google on “Tuning NFS file system”.

After a while there always occurs

NFS V3 Read Reply…
NFS V3 Read Call…

and then several times:
TCP [TCP segment of a reassembled PDU]
TCP [TCP segment of a reassembled PDU]
TCP spr-itunes shilp [ACK]…

and then it repeats.

The problem occurs also just after a restart of the system. If I mount the folder without restarting there is no data traffic. But I don’t know why.
I will try your proposal and hope that it will help, thank you for your answer.
