ClickPad Drivers ThinkPad Edge E220s

Hi all,

I am new to openSUSE (and pretty new to Linux in general).

I have openSUSE 11.4 with Gnome2 running on a ThinkPad Edge E220s laptop.

Almost everything is working exceptionally, and I find openSUSE to be more stable on my computer than several other popular distros.

However, I am having an enormous problem with my touchpad, which happens to be a clickpad.
Because it does not have separate buttons (they are integrated), I cannot properly use the touchpad. I cannot click if two fingers are on the pad (e.g. to drag a file). Double-clicking is a complete mess, since when I try to do so the touchpad moves the cursor all over the place and I often end up landing on the wrong thing. This is the biggest problem - a normal left click or double-click. My thumb causes the arrow to jump around, when if it was a normal button, it would not be an issue at all. On my MacBook Pro, a similar touchpad works flawlessly. I hate to say it, but this one works perfectly in Win7.

Please help me, as I am quite frustrated.

Thank you,
Zach

Hi,

im having similar issues with my synaptics clickpad in openSUSE 12.2. I think the double click problem is due to some too sensitive settings. Maybe some trial and error would help here. See “man synaptics”.

Whats this with the problem where i have my thumb on the left mouse button area and cannot move the cursor anymore with the other finger? It works when i press the thumb so that drag and drop starts. But thats not what i want. On win7 i can have my thumb on the pad and move the cursor without having to do drag and drop. Is this even possible in Linux? Is this working for anyone with a clickpad? What distro/kernel do you have?
