Clearing Bootable USB Drive

Hello,

I realize this sounds like a really stupid question (and it probably is), but I am having an enormous amount of trouble clearing my bootable USB flash drive with OpenSUSE 11.3 64 bit on it. I followed the instructions here: SDB:Live USB stick - openSUSE to initially create it, but since have been unable to reformat it and revert it to its original state.

The error I get under Ubuntu using gParted is in the command mkdosfs -F32 -v -n “” /dev/sdc1
where mkdosfs 3.0.7 “unable to open /dev/sdc1”. I get a similar error no matter what I try under both Ubuntu and OpenSUSE. I’ve also tried mounting the drive but then that causes the expected error from being mounted.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

This can be done through Yast:

Start Yast - System - Partitioner, Continue.
You will now see the USB-drive with it’s partition(s). Remove the partitions.
Now create a new partition, filesystem FAT, do not mount it.
Accept, let the partitioner do it’s job
