Clean installation - problems

Just got a new system (Linux 3.1.9-1.4-desktop x86_64, penSUSE 12.1 (x86_64), KDE: 4.7.2 (4.7.2) “release 5”) on a Sony Vaio (Intel(R) Core™ i5-2450M) -
installation of the system went flawlessly but I have some minor problems -

  1. Docky cannot start - although I installed all dependencies and gnome-desktop
here is the error I get:
docky
[Info 23:01:21.496] Docky version: 2.1.3 Release
[Info 23:01:21.501] Kernel version: 3.1.9.1
[Info 23:01:21.501] CLR version: 2.0.50727.1433
[Fatal 23:01:21.620] DBus could not be found and is required by Docky. Exiting.
  1. I want to use an external monitor on the optimal resolution (1280 x 1024) for that monitor (Dell FP1703) but I do not get that option through the Display and Monitor utility -
    any ideas?

In my experience when using an external monitor, KDE defaults to the lower of the two resolutions available; AFAIK work is being done on addressing this but I don’t know whether it is yet available. Someone else may be more informed about this.

I can get the laptop monitor to go the the optimal resolution ( 1366 x 768) - but the external goes only up to 1024 x 768 (even when it is the only monitor) -
in my previous laptop - with Nvidia card - I used to be able to make it work by editing (manually) the xorg.conf

You can still do that xorg.conf is still an option for special cases that that automatic system may not handle

that’s interesting - is there a tutorial (or a guide) on how to add/implement xorg.conf?

Docky - I managed to make it work - it is just missing libraries and you need to figure them out
