clean install cant get through installation dvd

Installing opensuse 11 on one clean hard drive. Everything goes ok untill I get to the grub/boot loader part.

I always get a "error 22 invalid partition (hd01) (hd01)

I have gone through almost every option in system repair trying to get the boot loader to install somewhere with no luck.

what is going on???

A clean install on new drive. BUT are other drives present? We need more info on your system

No I took out all other drives for the install and put the one hd on my sata 1 cable. then told the installer to use my entire hardrive for the install during the partition part.

I wonder if it has something to do with me having a raid controler but not using raid?

I would try again, use custom partitioning during setup.
Create
swap
/
/home

I always leave a fraction of space clear at the end

your drive will be listed I guess as something like : sda
you should see grub to be installed to that: sda

I really can’t say about raid.

You said You disconnected other drives, did You connect them after an install (on a single connected drive)?

Yea I disconnected them before the the install so its the only drive.

Was this the primary drive before.

If it was a slave drive, it may now need to be changed with the switches to let the system know it is now the master drive if no other drives are present.

I don’t know if that is required but I would check and test that first for all the time required

Yes, it was the primary drive. Before the install I made sure it was set as primary and sata 1 ont he motherboard. So I dont see why this wouldnt work. Its weird…

OK so I got suse installed. I had to delete all partitions off the drive, then delete /dev/sda. After that I rebooted and took the default install.

Like I said - Start again
Happy to hear you a up and running

Yea that was my 10th attempt. O’well atleast its now working. Thank god it only takes 20 min to install. Thanks everyone!
