Chronyd.service enabled with snapshot 20251212?

Hello,

during the zypper dup I received this

# 2025-12-15 20:24:33 systemd-presets-branding-openSUSE-12.2-28.1.noarch.rpm installed ok
# Additional rpm output:
# Resetting chronyd.service to the new default: enable
# Created symlink '/etc/systemd/system/multi-user.target.wants/chronyd.service' -> '/usr/lib/systemd/system/chronyd.service'.
#

In the factory mailing list for the snapshot annoucement:

==== systemd-presets-branding-openSUSE ====

- Enable chronyd.service by default: handle this as part of
  package installs, without relying on the installer (boo#1254778).

If I understand it correctly chronyd should now be enabled. The problem is that I use ntpd requested by Samba-ad-dc.
Can I disable chronyd or are there any plans to remove the ntpd package ?
Many thanks in advance
Philippe

@phil524 Hi, chrony is built with --enable-ntp-signd so it should just work…

Hello,

Thanks but I must then update /etc/chrony.conf for the timeservers that I use, convert all settings that I have in /etc/ntp.conf for my vlans and disable ntpd. I need some time to see how to do these changes. Until then I prefer to stay with ntpd

Many thanks again
Philippe

@phil524 You should be fine disabling and using ntpd, but I guess it’s time to transition and test…
