I’ve recently updated Chromium to version 15.0.854.0-2.1 and it won’t start now.
When I start it from terminal I get the following error message:
[9537:9537:1614240504:FATAL:zygote_host_linux.cc(129)] The SUID sandbox helper binary is missing: /usr/lib/chromium/chrome-sandbox Aborting now.
I tried reinstalling Chromium but I get the same message. I think it could be a problem of this version of Chromium. Can I get this to work somehow and if not, how can I downgrade Chromium to the previous version?
I’m using openSUSE 11.4 KDE. Any help would be appreciated.
Yep, but this one’s different. Latest update complains about the sandbox program not being there, and it is not there. Since I needed Chrome badly last night, I decided to temporarily try a package from the user directories, this one works.
I have the same issue. After installing chromium-15.0.854.0-1.2.i586.rpm from openSUSE:Factory:Contrib/standard on openSUSE 12.1 Milestone 3 I get the following error:
[10467:10467:1220540861:FATAL:zygote_host_linux.cc(129)] The SUID sandbox helper binary is missing: /usr/lib/chromium/chrome-sandbox Aborting now.
This is the same problem as the one described (and solved) in this other thread: Chromium doesn’t start after latest updates(15.0.854.0-2.1). But I didn’t notice that this one was about the 32bit version. I guess I could upload the previous version too. Do we have a better option other than using web sites (with limited bandwith) or media share kind of sites? In other words, is there a possibility to attach the archive here? … or another option I cannot think of.
Don’t worry, guys, you’ll get it one way or the other.
@ 32bit users,
How is the latest version working for you guys? Do you still need to downgrade to 846? ( = should I upload the 32bit older packages somewhere?)
You can also download it from my server (again, thanks to please_try_again for sharing the files).
Uncompressed rpms (compressed internally of course :P).
Since yesterday an updated version 15.0.854 could be found in Contrib that resolves the issue indicated with regards to the missing sandbox client. However it seems that this 15.0.854 introduced two more issues that have been reported as a bug.
The fist issue is that the tab close buttons are not working. (This was reported as bug 93086 and bug 93480).
The second issue is that this version is very slow as reported in bug report 93401.
A newer build 15.0.857 is available which resolves the issue with regards to the tab buttons. Unfortunately this build still has the slower performance and cpu hogging from time to time. As that Chromium is moving to a different OBS repository, this newer build will not be available through the Contrib repositories.
The cause for the slowness has been found and an update for libv8 (and maybe also chromium) would be available later today in the indicated repository network:chromium (http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/network:/chromium/<distribution version>)
The only issue with this build seems to be that the openSUSE OBS webpage is not opening. Hopefully this will be resolved with a next build of Chromium
