Chromium/Chrome: broken packages !! Do not update.

Chromium users who haven’t performed an update yet may consider locking chromium BEFORE updating the packages from the Contrib repo!

su -c 'zypper al chromium libv8-3'

so it won’t be updated to version 15.0.854.0-2.1 (which doesn’t work).

Hi
An update AFAIK to fix came through about 10 minutes
ago…

That would be good. I’ll watch it, test it if available, remove the post…

This a common issue
Easily avoided by patience

So this is fixed if i understand this right ?

Not quite. It is building in OBS but the package is not available in the repo yet. It might still take a while.

New version is available. And it seems to be working fine

edit:
unfortunately it’s not working fine. I’m observing massive CPU usage, 100% on one or even two cores, and it works VERY slow :frowning:
Everything was working smoothly before update.

hi guys; no, it is not working. it starts… and it is all what it is doing. hangs on every page, even ‘setup’. installed from scratch, deleted local chromium config directory - the same.

Do you have adblock plus installed?
It causes this strange CPU usage and slowdown on my machine.
Try disabling any third party plugins.

Without Adblock it works normally. With ugly ads though :/. I need to wait for Adblock update.

Agree it is slower than I remember the last version was but not by much on my low spec machine. Perhaps those with higher spec machines notice a bigger difference.

did it already - i’ve removed “.config/chromium” directory. 7 minutes to get google.com.

It is horribly slow in my machine as well. 100% CPU usage. Unusable. :frowning:

a tad slow but definitely usable for me. ps. no abnormal cpu usage by browser.

CPU load goes up and down during loading new pages. “A tad slow” is what describes my laptop’s Chromium best. No need/urge to remove anything, since that does not make any difference.

BTW. just noticed: posting here is quicker than before…

Anyone saw this? When running ‘top’ I see multiple instances of ‘chromium’…also seen as in

glosscomputer@Knurpht:~> ps -ea | grep chromium
26263 ? 00:00:47 chromium
26265 ? 00:00:01 chromium
26267 ? 00:00:00 chromium
26297 ? 00:00:29 chromium
26329 ? 00:04:15 chromium
26331 ? 00:03:19 chromium
26339 ? 00:00:19 chromium
26349 ? 00:00:03 chromium
26356 ? 00:01:28 chromium
26475 ? 00:00:01 chromium
26482 ? 00:00:00 chromium
26553 ? 00:00:24 chromium

Even a single tab opening the forums generates multiple chromium instances and high CPU load on changing pages.

Something is really wrong with this build. I think it should be removed from repo.
Even if CPU usage isn’t 100%, still pages load very slowly. Even pages from my local web server, or chromium’s internal pages (like about:flags).
Using it is quite annoying…

It would be great if we could rollback to build 846 or get next (hopefully better) build ASAP.
Firefox 6 isn’t any good too (at least for me). Im running out of browsers

This is how chromium works: it opens each tab in a different thread. High CPU usage is not normal though.

Back to the …846… packages. These work fine. Yet they create multiple instances of chromium too, so forget about that. CPU load never above 5%…

I’ve noticed it causes memory violation on exit
