chromium and openSUSE11.1

I am running openSUSE 11.1 and KDE 4.3.4.

I just took a look at Webpin to see what all options I had available before installing chromium for the first time!

I noticed that the version in Factory:/Contrib/openSUSE_11.2 is 4.0.266.0 so I assumed that the same version will be present in Factory:/Contrib/openSUSE_11.1 but I found a significantly older version there viz. 4.0.223.2
Does it mean that the version in 11.1 contrib won’t be updated any further or just that the maintainer(s) haven’t got to updating it yet? How do I know which one is the case?

BTW, I installed 4.0.266.0 from the following repository “home:/jhaygood:/branches:/openSUSE:/Factory:/Contrib/openSUSE_11.1” and everything has been running smoothly so far.

Any ideas? Even things like how do I find out who the maintainers are, how do I contact them etc, will be helpful.

Has no one faced such a scenario before?

just have a visit to this thread.at the end of this discussion you will get some idea to have it on your own machine.

Contrib repo for released version are freezed. It usually does not contain version update.
Actually, the contrib repo for 11.1 isn’t even supported and might disappear soon.

See Contrib - openSUSE for more information.

i was not aware of that…let c what our open SUSE guru say…

Thank you Spyhawk and csayantan for your replies.

OK, I understand the Contrib concept now. So basically we need to wait until a Chromium build service repository is created, like the one for mozilla? How do I know if that is being planned right now and how can I help if interested?

Try contacting one of the Chromium maintener (have a look at the build service for mail) or try asking directly on the contrib/packaging mailing list.
