chrome + youtube problem

I just noticed a few days ago that chromium isn’t playing some youtube video’s. I get a black screen where the video should be, and some text on the video that says “This video is currently unavailable”

Any ideas on whats going on? I don’t have these problems in firefox. I tried uninstalling chrome and deleting the config files in the home folder for flash and chrome.

I’m on opensuse 12.3 64

Chrome or Chromium? They are not the same thing?
If Chromium which version of flash are you using - from the non-oss repo or the pepperflash plugin from packman? Try changing them around.

edit: or perhaps you are using the html5 version of youtube in one browser and flash in the other? Not all youtube videos will play in the html5 player. It’s easy to switch between the two.

There is the possibility that you need to install pepperflash just bring up Yast & type pepperflash in the search. If you don’t have it get it. If you’ve got it then double check by opening Chromium & typing this into the search bar:

chrome://plugins/

Once there you can enable or disable the plugins.
My suspicion is that as farcunz says you may have HTML5 enabled in Chromium which is fine, but you don’t have flash in it or it’s not enabled.

I’m not on html4 youtube and I didn’t have pepperflash installed. So I installed pepperflash, and now I just need to watch some video’s. So far so good. Thanks people! I’ll report back if I run in to any more problems.

That didn’t work. I deleted everything that has to do with flash, and found a package called chromium-pepper-flash. I installed that and still no good.

I did verify that it is installed in chrome://plugins/

Heres an example of one video that isn’t working. Can you guys view this on chrome?

If I open the youtube page in an incognito window it works! So weird.

I think I need to completely delete my chromium install and all settings… I tried that earlier but I don’t think I found all the files.

I deleted the config files in the home directory, for chromium and restarted and it works. I really thought I already tried that, but I guess not. Or maybe my problem is kinda random. I’ll just have to wait and see.

you need to stop referring to chromium as chrome otherwise you are gonna confuse the issue. Again - chrome and chromium are not the same.

Your link above works fine for me with chromium (without pepperflash - I don’t see any reason to install pepperflash as the version of flash in oss works for me).

I’m not on html4 youtube

that’s html5
Try it out. It might work better for you.

are you really sure you aren’t using the html5 player in chromium???
Your link above plays fine for me in flash on chromium but does not play in html5!!

Whats this “Again” stuff? Your the one that didn’t know the difference in your original thread haha. Anyway, it’s working now. Thanks for the help!

I’m typing to fast.

??? :\

Anyway, it’s working now. Thanks for the help!

care to help out others that might come across the problem by explaining what you did to fix it?

oh, sorry. I missed post number 6 as we were posting about the same time.

but for others that might come across the same problem.
sometimes with the html5 player you will see this (same as described by the op)

SUSE Paste (from the op’s video link)

solution is to switch back to the flash player.

You usually don’t see the same problem in firefox though.

I have same problem it just started. I am using chromium ver 31 with opensuse 13.1
This issue is on my desktop but have a laptop running on elementary OS and had same issue and these command resolved it
sudo apt-get remove chromium-codecs-ffmpeg
sudo apt-get install chromium-codecs-ffmpeg-extra (flash - Can’t watch youtube videos with chromium on ubuntu 13.04 64-bit - Ask Ubuntu)

Not sure in suse how to install html5 support, Yes I have tried join/unjoin https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=(http://www.youtube.com/html5) experiment with no luck.
