Sound is in a state of flux right now with Linux (not just openSUSE) which is contributing to this situation. … But its gradually getting better, so please try to bear with it.

wrt your choppy sound, take a look at step 7 in the audio troubleshooting guide:
SDB:AudioTroubleshooting - openSUSE - step7 - trying to fix choppy sound
in particular the second part of that step.

Thanks oldcpu

I’ll try this.

I LOVE my openSuse, especially the new Plasma KDE.

Just wish sound weren’t such a headache

I just updated MS8 from the DVD and have the same sound chip set as you
(Intel ICH9). My sound works fine from the YaST test and from Desktop
configuration. No sound from Amorok. Have not tested others yet. I did
notice I have Xine and pulse Audio where MS7 had Xine and gsstreamer as the
engine choices. All my sound worked fine in MS 7.
I know my problem is in MS8 since my 11.1 sould (dual boot - same sound
card) works fine.

I’ll post anything I find. First is go thru troubleshooting steps, they help
me before.

The hardware shown below id from my production system, where I monitor this
news group, fix was on MS8 system.

Amorok problem is solved. I uninstalled the RPM for xine-pulse and then I
got xine and gstreamer backend under desktop confiuration - multimedia. I
made sure xine was selected and tested Amorok, it works fine. still need to
test Video sound.
