Choosing proper printer driver

On 13.1 KDE 32bit, I am installing an HP LaserJet 2200dn network printer and want to know which of the 3 printer drivers I should install. I don’t know the difference between them and wanted to solicit help on the selection. Let me know what you may think. Thanks!

My 2200dn died about 2 years ago, and I no longer remember the exact name of the
driver I used. What I do remember is that the PCL driver was considerably faster
in the printer that the PostScript version. The processor in that printer is
quite slow.

Thanks. I’ll remember that, too. BTW, I’ve got an old 2300dn still around here that gave up the ghost but I’ve forgotten what failed. For some reason I kept it because I just hate to loose old hardware which is why I’m running Linux on these two old boxes I have. The wife says I’m a hoarder but I am moving through the stock pile of old parts that I’m chunking away slowly.

In my experience, the easiest way to change the printer driver if you don’t think you have installed the right one is to use CUPS. You have to navigate through quite a number of menus but it’s still quicker and easier than trying to use YaST.

Looks like you have several choices (see link below), but for maximum options/quality, the hplip driver is recommended.

On my HP1518, the pcl driver prints much faster if there’s a lot of
graphics, but the PS driver prints faster for pure text. So I have both
installed, and make a choice at printing time. (YMMV…)

I’m experimenting with a couple of different drivers (originally wanted to get the duplexer working) and have d/l’d the 3.14.1 version to try, too. All very new to me but I’m slowly getting a handle on this. Thanks everyone!
