Hi, I wanted to see something, and I simply logged out of my system (openSUSE 11, KDE 4.1), and tried to log back in.
When I did, I did not see my desktop, but I saw a white and gray checkered background with a small desktop icon in the top left corner. I had no menu, icons or anything. Cold reboots did not fix the problem. It doesn’t seem to be my video, because compiz works–I can rotate the cube, I just get no KDE panel, icons or wallpaper.
Any reasons why this happened and what can I do to fix it?
On a kind of unrelated note, when I right clicked on my desktop and selected “run command” the dialog would appear, but I couldn’t actually run anything.
Anyhow, the checkered thing is much more important
Just to update this thread…mods might want to lock this in order to keep info from becoming tainted between the threads…following the other thread posted above, the Upadate Checkerboard Problem, will fix this. You will need to add another repository in order to make sure your dependency issues are fixed then do another update and you will be golden…make sure to follow the directions and you will not have to worry with deleting or renaming your .kde or .kde4 directories…
