I downloaded the openSUSE Leap 15.0 DVD ISO and verified the sha256 using a Windows app; it was correct.
Then I used Etcher to flash the ISO to an 8 GB USB stick. Etcher verified the stick afterward and said it was correct.
Then I booted the USB stick and selected “check installation media” from the boot menu. I got an error message, saying “this is not an openSUSE Leap installation media” but I was given an option to select a different drive. I selected my USB stick and it checked that, but then I got a message “Checksum Wrong. This DVD is broken.”
I had this exact same problem on a different USB stick several months ago with a Tumbleweed ISO. I assumed my stick was bad and I ended up installing with an actual DVD that time, though it was slow (which is to be expected with optical drives). I’d love to get the USB stick working, but none of my USB sticks seem to work for this purpose, unless the “check installation media” function in the boot menu doesn’t work on USB sticks.
Is this problem normal/expected on USB sticks, and I should just ignore it because I verified the download and Etcher said the stick was OK?
Any help is much appreciated.
