With default install, system boots fine and all the splash screens work great using openSUSE.
Found the jpg’s used during boot for the splash screens in /etc/bootsplash/themes/openSUSE/images
My daughter is 15 and thinks having pink backgrounds would be really COOL.
Used gimp choose Colorify and selected pink which resulted in a cool color scheme. With the modified images saved back in /etc/bootsplash/themems/openSUSE/images, during boot I see the green images with a faint of pink on the outsides.
Am I using gimp wrong?

Which exactly did you edit. The “silent” ones as well? I did this in the past, don’t remember all the tricks. Maybe running “su -c mkinitrd” is needed. If the jpeg is pink in the Gimp, that’s not the problem. AFAICS the first suggestion is what it’s about. Turn all the jpegs to pink, it’s a bit of work, but that would shut out possibilities there.
There’s also the config folder, the files contain bg_color and fg_color as well. Might be somewhere in there too.
I did convert all the images located in the folder I stated.
Regarding the mkinitrd, I am doing it now as I write this. I was under the impression that the images were not embeded in the boot files. I guess we’ll find out in a few mins.
System just rebooted, and running the mkinitrd did it. Amazing. Only thing left is to fix the login screen background.
Ok, I have a new gripe. I went to login manager, and tried downloading new Login Themes. None Downloaded. And when I tried to download them manually and install, some claimed to install but the default still shows.
Ok, to continue my gripe. It would be nice if someone would let the user know that the Login Manager within the Personal settings module only downloads and installs the KDM Theme. OpenSuSE requires you to set the Theme via the following…
Yast2 => System => /etc/syconsfig Editor => Desktop => Display Manager => DISPLAYMANAGER_KDM_THEME.
The entry seems to be case sensitive according to the folder name located in folder “/usr/share/kde4/apps/kdm/themes”.
