Just out of curiosity, what are the dangers(if any) or complications of changing from GNOME to LXDE desktop environment? And what would be the pro’s and con’s to such a change?

None. Why should there be any?
Notice that you are not installing again. You are just choosing another one
of the many desktops available - and all can be installed on the same
machine, simultaneously. You may have one user running kde, another gnome,
at the same instant.
Use the one you like best or that works best for your needs.
