Changing File-Roller file associations

I don’t know how to set/change File-Roller file associations.

For instance, if I double-click on a mp3 file Totem will open automatically.

But if I double-click on a mp3 throug File-Roller, inside of a rar or zip file, that file will open with Banshee.

I don’t know how this preference has changed and I want things like they were before: Totem playing those files by default, even when they are inside of an archive.

Please help me… thank you :expressionless:

It seems more users are waiting for an answer to this problem:

and so on…

Anyone? :\

> Anyone? :\

assume you have looked in the documentation which came with “File
Roller” without success?

i had no idea what a “File Roller” was…but with the magic of google
i find the authors email, and suggest if the A to your Q? is NOT in
the documentation you contact <paolo.bacchilega AT libero DOT it> and
volunteer to help him with the english language (or other) version of
an EXPANDED help file…while you ask your question…

open source does not mean free…it means FREEDOM, and you are free
to help…

Oh come on, man… if you don’t know what file roller is, just go away and leave me alone.

I want HELP, not stupid answers…

Not a good way to get help from anyone here. Perhaps he answered the way he did because:

  1. The links you provided showed there was a bug report out on this.

  2. One of the links (on the Ubuntu page) has a post apparently by you, which would lead one to believe you already knew there was a bug report on this issue.

  3. If you bothered to follow the link on the page you posted on
[ubuntu] Default Open With from Archive / File Roller - Ubuntu Forums]([ubuntu] Default Open With from Archive / File Roller) , it shows that the author has said that the bug has been fixed in the development version and the fix would be in the next release.

So, what other help do you need???:stuck_out_tongue:

Another imbecil…

Maybe because i’m STILL HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM?

And if you DON’T HAVE the answer, WHY did you answer???

Forget it… people on this forum don’t know the concept of helping.

I regret the day I’ve registered here. Bye bye to you all and thanks for nothing.

I hope you, some day, another stupid guy help you like you’ve “helped” me.

Here’s another question for you:

How do I cancel my account here? LOL

Before calling someone an imbecile, you should at least know how to spell it …

The people who have responded to your post are not the ones who are stupid … try looking in the mirror.

Now, before you do us a favor and leave, let’s try one more time. It is a KNOWN PROBLEM, and the developer has fixed it, and the fix will be in the next release. So of course you are still having the same problem, as you are using the release that has not been fixed. That is the answer - short and sweet. If you can’t accept it as the answer, that’s your problem.

Now toddle away … as far as canceling your account, just don’t come back … problem solved!!! rotfl!

Bye bye to you …

Oh, I’m sorry my dear friend… but I’m not american and my english is very poor. You should try to learn and speak portuguese too, to see how difficult it is.

Now, before I leave, LET ME try to give REAL help to people who are having the same problem as me and aren’t interested in wating for the next release of File-Roller.

Login as root and edit mimeinfo.cache:

su
gedit /usr/share/applications/mimeinfo.cache

Search for audio/mpeg=

The first program you specify is the program that File-Roller will use to open a compressed mp3 file!

Example:
audio/mpeg=totem.desktop;banshee-1.desktop;
This will open Totem…

audio/mpeg=banshee-1.desktop;totem.desktop;
This will open Banshee.

Now, goodbye, pseudo-helpers. rotfl!

Personally I could care less about your lack of English … obviously you know enough to be arrogant and insulting. So saying that you are not a native English speaker doesn’t mitigate your behavior.

As far as your solution - it’s nice to see, besides being obnoxious, you at least listened to earlier advice and did some research.

However, the problem still remains with File Roller not remembering what your preferred application to open a file type is. That, as the developer of the application has stated, has been fixed in the current development version and will be in the next release.

Then WAIT man… WAIT for the next release! That’s your problem!

Some of us want a solution NOW.
