Changing default java to Sun's latest version

Every time I try to remove the java version from the SUSE repo it wants
to install another java version every time, both out of date.

I like to keep my software up to date but I’m stuck with a jre 1.6
update 7 for ages and would like to use Sun’s latest java version as
system default, I’m already using it as browser default. The Java wiki
page on Suse’s website was of no use, I’ve tried update-alternatives but
it doesn’t show the java version I manually installed.
I was thinking of replacing every symbolic link but I’ve had bad
experience in the far past with this so I’d like to know tips and tricks
of experienced users.

Thank you in advance

Actually never mind, the same day the JRE 6 update 10 was available in
the repo. It’s good enough for me
