I use kdm as the Display Manager. How can I change the background (login image) displayed at Login ?
Have you tried changing the theme in Kickoff -> Configure Desktop -> (advanced tab) -> login manager? Looks like there are some settings in there that control kdm.

That option is not available (in KDE 4.2.2), as it says ‘The background cannot be configured separately in themed mode’

install the theme you want to use from this area “Kickoff -> Configure
Desktop ->(advanced tab) -> login manager”
then kdesu kwrite /etc/sysconfig/displaymanager scroll down to find
DISPLAYMANAGER_KDM_THEME=“TYPE YOUR THEME NAME HERE” leave the quotes
and it is cap sensitive
