I have a fine working NVIDIA Geforce 8600 GT in my System, but if I start the System with the new kernel of the factory-repo the X-server doesn’t start, so I can work in Text mode only. for compile a open source kernel module of the mantis driver I was forced to upgrade my kernel to a least 2.6.28.x, now I have a work TV-card, but if I want to install a kernel module with NVIDIA installer, it says the header file is missing (altrought I have installed it). so I don’t find a way to save the edit xorg.conf in text using vim or at least close vim with Crtl + c like it’s mentioned in the help files. so I cann’t use the nv diver working.
I hope I don’t hve mixed to much Information together, so you can help me. If you need futher Information ask me.
So you have tried reinstalling the Nvidia driver
Yes I have tried to reinstall the NVIDIA driver after boot up with the new kernel. kernel-source, gcc 4.4 and make are updated with the packets of the factory repo. May I should compile the kernel by myself, so I get the .config, but there are so many options to config, so I know where I have to start.
This is going to make a mess of your system because a lot has changed with kernel 2.6.30
Best thing I can think of now, is to entirely upgrade to Factory using the Milestone 2.
What are you using the mantis driver for? I mean what DVB card? Got a Cinergy C CI HD running, but no CI working so far.
Yes it’s the card, after all, I think I have got the wrong card (but these card was the only card the supported by linux which was sold by local vendors). I have now got the X-server with the new default-kernel working and now being by compile my own kernel from scratch (not to difficult after all, but going through config for the first time took me at least 4 hours). Now I should get any problem with build a new kernel interface. CI Support does’t matter at the moment because the TV signal is NDS Videoguard encrypted (there is a software NDS PC Plex that should work fine, if where weren’t 2 things * ).

- According to NDS Support these product is not for consumer
- I don’t know how the linux support for this software is (NDS didn’t anwser this question in my supportmail).
So, I now have it done with compiling a vanilla kernel the modules for NVIDIA graphic an the mantis modules seems to work proper.
But now I can’t find the Cinergy C PCI HD in the yast-TV-module.
the kernel module is active according to hwinfo and modprobe.
Nope, you won’t find the module in Yast.
You should however be able to start kaffeine (preferably the one for KDE3) and see a Digital TV option in de side-bar and a DVB option in the menu.
thank you, I havn’t tested if the software works altrought, my analog TV card is working proper any way.
