change hostname description

When browsing in WinXP Windows Explorer to view an OpenSUSE computer, the displayed name is:
Samba 3.5.4-5.3.1-2489-SUSE-SL11.3 (hostname)

Other Windows computers display as:

computer description

How can I change the “computer description” within OpenSUSE?

kahu;

In the global section of /etc/samba/smb.conf add (or modify if it already
exists) the parameter “server string”

As an example:

server string = kahunet
or
server string = Samba on SuSE

venzkep is right. However some stupid Windows machines insist on caching the old value. I’m sure a web search will show you the place on Windows where the old value can be cleared.

Additional information: Windows caches the server string, so even after
making this change you may find remnants of the old string. New connections
will display properly.
