Change default music player to amarok in Gnome?

Hi, I`m trying to change my default music player from banshee/vlc to amarok in gnome. I would like amarok to open when I insert a music cd. I have tried the preferred apps in the control center but there is no listing for amarok, only VLC. Amarok and sound works fine but as Im not sure how to set up mp3 codecs and such and other apps wont play cds I prefer amarok which seems to do it all already.

Using SUSE 11.0

Any help greatly appreciated.

Hi, you could right-click an mp3 file and do Open with… → more applications, select amarok and check the “always open with…” box. Then mp3 files should always open with amarok. This works in KDE (and windows xp) and should work in a similar way in gnome. Just explore the context menu of an mp3 file an you’ll know. Can’t help you with the audio CD problem. Maybe you can add the path to amarok directly in your preferred apps. To spot the path type which amarok in a terminal.

In gnome it’s a little different. If you want amarok to be the default multimedia player, go to control center, then you will see preferred applications or something like that (I’m using spanish locale here, so I can’t tell what is the exact name).
To do it only with certain type of file (like mp3 or ogg), right click on any mp3 file in nautilus, select properties, then select “open with” tab.

Thanks guys, I tried right clicking on a .wav file and mp3 and changing open with to amarok but it still starts banshee when I insert a cd. I also tried typing amarok into the command section of the preferred apps window but this hasnt worked either. Maybe I need to insert the full path for the cd drive into the command box but Im not sure how to do this.
