cds are not recognised

I’ve been trying to solve this problem for a couple of days now. I’m sure it’s linked to k3b not being able to burn CD’s. I’ve solved the k3b problem by adding my user to the ‘cdrom’ and ‘disk’ group but I’m still unable to play any audio CD’s. Neither YaST or Amarok recognise that a CD is in the drive. I’m running openSUSE 11.1 with KDE4.

There are a couple of things to try. First, add yourself to the audio group using

sudo groupmod -A your_name audio

Second, try playing the CD with Kaffiene. Amarok seems to behave strangely in kde4.
