CD/DVD problems with 11.2

I have a Dell Optiplex 740 with a DVD reader and a DVD-RW.
Everything that has to do with the DVD drives worked in
SuSe 11.1 and KDE 4.1. Everything still works in Windows XP.
I just installed SuSe 11.2 with KDE 4.3.

My problem is that CD’s and DVD’s written on another machine
from ISO’s are automounted and work. CD’s and DVD’s written
by the same drive with k3b that are not from ISO’s will not
mount at all.

I opened the case and reseated all of the cables for both drives
and get the same results.

Any suggestions on what might be wrong and how to fix it?

CD’s and DVD’s written
by the same drive with k3b that are not from ISO’s will not
mount at all.

So what are they, just data cd’s?

What if you write the same on another machine? Because you said: CD’s and DVD’s written on another machine from ISO’s

What you are saying is a bit of a jumble.

These are all data disks.

There is a second computer sitting right next to the computer with SuSe 11.2. It is running SuSe 11.1.

  1. I have used the SuSe 11.1 computer to write a number of different data disks.

  2. All disks were written using k3b and the same DVD-RW drive.

  3. All of the disks (that I have tried) that were written from ISO’s, e.g. the SuSe 11.2 x64 install disk, automount on the SuSe 11.2 computer.

  4. All of the disks (that I have tried) that were written from collections of files do not automount on the SuSe 11.2 computer.
These disks automount on the SuSe 11.1 computer.

  5. When I had SuSe 11.1 on the SuSe 11.2 computer, all of the disks automounted.

Is that any clearer? :stuck_out_tongue:

Which k3b version? ( rpm -qa | grep k3b )

I use:
k3b-codecs-1.68.0-40.pm.41.2.x86_64
k3b-lang-1.68.0-40.pm.41.2.noarch
k3b-1.68.0-40.pm.41.2.x86_64

All from the Packman repo. Work like a charm. But you’re not the only one having trouble.

The ones on the machine I was writing on are

rpm -qa | grep k3b
k3b-codecs-1.0.5-1.pm.19.37
k3b-1.0.5-48.22

That looks like it could be a problem. I will write a new disk after updating to a newer k3b and see if it works.

Thank you.

If you follow this you’ll be OK

Thank you for the suggestions. Unfortunately, they did not help.

Any other possible solutions?

I booted the machine with a SuSe 11.1, 32 bit live CD
and it mounted one of the CD’s that 64 bit 11.2 would
not mount.

Is this a driver bug?
