Serious trouble. I need to burn a few gigabyte pretty much now, but my DVD burner is not detected/installed. It’s simply not there. However, the burner is fully functional before openSUSE boots. I get the openSUSE install menue when I insert the disc and reboot the pc. What could be the reason(s) and what can I do? Please, I need help ASAP.
ASAP I tell you to execute chmod 666 /dev/srX as root where X is the
correct number for you DVD burner, but this is not the final solution,
check your media burner program for permissions configuration

Not sure if this will help you, but add “noapic” (without quotes) switch to
the kernel boot options and see if that cures it (it did in my case).
