try this, and report back:

without the card inserted, during the boot from the installed 12.1,
at the first green screen (where you select the kernel(s) or windows)
press F5 and select systemv (rather than the default systemd) and then
try the same card in the same insert point…

does it work? (if so, collect the same kinda info you did when booted
systemd because i gonna want you to file a bugzilla–and the devs may
need both info from boot-V and boot-D)

Ok, the firsts tests was made booting with Default (should be systemd??)
now I booted with systemV
but it doesn’t works :frowning:
here is the dmsg with systemV

hmmmmm…i wonder why it works when running the KDE live CD?

oh! you wrote “If I use a fresh and clean install (with KDE47 repo) of
suse 12.1” and i wonder what that means…did you format both /(root)
and /home, or did you bring anything forward from what you had?

and, i wonder when you moved from 11.4 to 12.1 how you did that…did
you bring along your /home then also…

so, how long have you used this same /home, and did you with any other
distributions?

well, try this:

  1. if you are still booted up with systemv, reboot and press F5 and make
    sure you are in systemd

  2. using YaST > Security and Users > User and Group Management, add a
new test user … then log out and log back in as the test user and test
    your card…

does it work now?

(and answer the questions about what you mean exactly when you said “a
fresh and clean install” and, how that be ‘clean’ when you already gone
to KDE47? did this card work before on the default installed KDE?)

me too:-), at first I thougt to download and try with another distro livecd, but I had the suse one and give it a try:-)

for "fresh and clean"I intend I had a working (cardreader too)suse 11.4, tri booted with android and windows and a common data ext3 partition, with 3 partition for suse, /, /home, /swap; I installed as new installation suse 12.1 formatting ext3 the /, /home and /swap; I didn’t bring along my /home, the /home is as suse 12.1 create it, for KDE47 repo I intend that I activated the KDE47 repo and switch to that repo

no, it doesn’t works

clean becouse the only thing I did are suse updates and KDE47 switch, clean becouse I didnt think that KDE47 could break my hardware, maybe some software but influence hardware functionality …, I can roll back to original installation disabling KDE47 and switching to oss and non-oss repo??
I don’t remember if on the default installed the card reader was working, I remember it worked on 11.4

i really don’t know what to say, maybe there is a bug in 12.1 that
should be logged in Bugzilla, but that leaves the question of:

Why is that bug not seen when the card/reader is tested with a 12.1 live CD?

so, if this bug is not in the live CD, how did it get into your
installed 12.1??

and the possible answers to that are not very many:

  1. faulty install media (did you check md5 and self test disk?)
  2. install error (did you have any errors during install?)
  3. hardware problems (disk error miss-recorded the now bug)
  4. errors introduced since install (via either software installed on
your system which is not on the CD or actions you have taken to change
    configuration files, or ??)

i do not know how to solve the problem, someone else needs to help you
determine if it is a bug that needs to be reported, or . . .

checked, it was ok

no errors

I think not

I think not

Well, I installed again a fresh and cristal clean suse 12.1 on my acer one d255,
checked DVD install media=ok
installed with no network cable inserted
formatted /, /home and swap
installation went well
rebooted three times, the card reader doesn’t works

I tested again the suse 12.1 liveCD KDE, the card reader works.
I tested with linux mint lisa, the card reader works.

I installed from suse 12.1 liveCD KDE,
started liveCD KDE tested again card reader and clicked on install icon,
installed with no network cable inserted
formatted /, /home (swap I cannot becouse was busy from suse liveCD, plus some annoying problem during installation about packagekit which didn’t stop, I used system monitor to kill it, some advise about 1Gb of ram wasn’t enough)
apart this installation went well
rebooted three times, the card reader WORKS
updated and added packman and dvdcss repos, the card reader WORKS AGAIN.
I will add KDE47 repos and switch and will report back.

after this I think there should be a bug in the 12.1 DVD and not in liveCD KDE, what do you think about???

I think you should write a bug report on this. Doing so will bring this to the attention of the packagers who may be able to suggest better log files to check ( dmesg? /va/log/messages ? ) and commands to run at appropriate times to garner more information ( trail ? ) . My knowledge is insufficient to help.

thank you for your patience and persistence!

and, i really mean that–one reason is that i use an Acer D255 everyday
as my daily driver (with a full sized keyboard, mouse and monitor
attached—just LOVE the way it sips electricity but is (almost) as fast
and my terminally ill electro-hog…

i intend to install 12.1 in the next few months and will do so from a
DVD (when i get around to it)…and, will add to your bug at that time,
and post my results here…

I installed opensuse 12.2 FROM dvd on my acer aspire one d255, installation ran ok, but the card reader problem described with 12.1 is still there.
yes, the DVD installation uses kernel desktop, as suggested from a dev I also installed the following kernels

pla@linux-dwtr:~> uname -r
3.4.6-2.10-default
pla@linux-dwtr:~>

pla@linux-dwtr:~> uname -r
3.4.6-2.10-debug
pla@linux-dwtr:~>

but the card reader doesn’t works.

ciao, thanks a lot, pier
