Cant's create bridge, NetworkManager is in the way. Where is network.service???

Hi everyone,
Was trying today to set up bridge network to use it for (some) virtual guests and while proceeding, as i used to, with turning off NetworkManager service and trying to enable (and start) network service… i came to discovery that there was no network.service on my system :?. And i’m relatively new to opensuse to know what provides it (search with zypper didn’t amount to anything).
Anyone can tell me how can i install network.service?
Thank you in advance.

OS - opensuse factory
Hypervisor - kvm

Hi
If your using factory, it will be the wicked service. Easier to use
YaST -> Network Devices -> Network Settings, select Add, then in the
dropdown (Device Type) select Bridge, press next to configure, and
select the bridged devices tab to select which interface you want to
use.

Thanks Malcolm for you prompt reply, that’s where i got bit frustrated with NetworkManager - moment a start Network Settings (yast) i get this pop up message telling me that NetworkManager is in charge and yast can’t make any changes to network settings… consequently all buttons are grayed out. Same response i get from Virtual Machine Manager, i tried from VMM interface adding bridge… this is just frustrating…
Any other thoughts?

Switch to the “Global Options” tab in YaST (should actually happen automatically after that message about NetworkManager controlling the settings).
You can change between “Network Manager”, “Wicked”, and “No network” there.
That’s the preferred method to disable NetworkManager.

After selecting “Wicked”, clicking on OK and starting YaST again, you should be able to configure everything in YaST.

Thank you wolfi, “Wicked” service is “network.service” now … apparently :). What threw me off even trying wicked service (what a wicked name he?:)) is that i (for strange reason) do not have option “No network”, but instead “Network service disabled” and i have interpreted it as “network.service is disabled so can’t use it now” instead of “Network service disabled”=No Network at all…
But i guess service name was changed exactly to avoid this sort of confusions… although it would have been nice to include this change in help file…
Oh well…
Thanks again guys.

PS where this name comes from - wicked? How did it enter realm of networking naming conventions :)?

Yes, it is indeed “Network service disabled”. I couldn’t take a look and wrote from memory…

I don’t know really.
Maybe it’s a pun on wicd, another network manager?
https://launchpad.net/wicd
And “wicd” comes from “Wireless Interface Connection Daemon”.

hehe, wicked…

PS how do i mark this thread as “Solved”?
